Compline (Before Bed)

COMPLINE, the evening office, the last of the day, chanted by Fr. Ron Shibley, Rector, St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Anglican Church.  From Hear Us, O Lord: Daily Offices for the Laity. Compline is said just before bedtime.  In it the faithful thank the Lord for the gift of the day just past and ask His protection from evil ( both in thought and acts) during the overnight hours.

Vespers (5 PM or sundown)

VESPERS, the office for 5 PM or local sundown, from Hear Us, O Lord: Daily Offices for the Laity. Get your own copy at the Our Publications page. Vespers celebrates the end of the work day and asks for God's protection for the faithful during the coming night hours.

Ninth Hour (3 PM)

NINTH HOUR from Hear Us, O Lord: Daily Offices for the Laity.  Ninth Hour prayers commemorate the death of Christ upon the Cross at 3 PM.  We say the office every Thursday at 3 PM as we close our Work Day at the Chapel.  Get your copy at the Our Publications page.

Sixth Hour (12 Noon)

SIXTH HOUR from Hear Us, O Lord: Daily Offices for the Laity.   Get your copy at the Our Publications page.  We say the office at Noon every Thursday before the start of Work Day at the Chapel.  Sixth Hour commemorates the Cruxificion which occurred at 12 Noon.

Third Hour (9 AM)

THIRD HOUR from Hear Us, O Lord: Daily Offices for the Laity.  Get your copy at the Our Publications page.  We say Third Hour every Sunday at 9 AM. Third Hour prayer commemorates both the descent of the Holy Spirit and St. Paul's encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus.  Both events occurred at 9 AM.
